Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginners Guide to Holy Week

February 21 @ 7:00 pm

Examine the actions of Jesus and his companions between Palm Sunday and Easter, asking what risks they took and what we can learn from them. Jesus’ final days were full of risk. Every move he made was filled with anticipation, danger, and the potential for great loss or great reward.

Jesus risked his reputation when he entered Jerusalem in a victory parade. He risked his life when he dared to teach in the Temple. His followers risked everything when they left behind their homes, or anointed him with costly perfume. Author Amy-Jill Levine shows us how the scripture raises ethical and spiritual questions and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.

Levine walks us through the Jesus’ last days, delving into the historical context and motives of those involved to open doors for beginners as well as seasoned readers of the Bible. Sessions will begin with a video summary.
“I often read books that expand my knowledge.  Sometimes I find a book that expands my capacity for compassion.  Levin’s Entering the Passion of Jesus is that rare book that does both…” -Anthony Le Donne, Associate Professor of New Testament, United Theological Seminary; Executive Editor, Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus.
