Prayer Shawl Meeting
February 3 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
The Prayer Shawl Ministry began in May 2009 as a tangible compassionate way to spread God’s love to others at times of illness, loss, and grief and to also celebrate joy at baptisms and high school graduations. Shawls are hand-knit or crocheted in patterns of 3, 7, or 12 stitches or rows symbolizing the Holy Trinity, Days the Lord made, and Jesus’ disciples. Recipients are instructed that “the prayer shawl was lovingly handmade for them and may it remind them of the Christian ties that bind us together. Wrap yourself in its warmth and feel the love and joy extended from the church family at Lansing United Methodist Church! Wear daily when you pray.” We also hand knit mini-prayer shawls with a Christian cross in the pattern approximately 4” by 4” to fit under your pillow, in your bible, purse, backpack, or on a nightstand. These unique shawls are meant to be held whenever the recipient needs comfort in His love. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets once a month and prays over each shawl before it is given to its recipient.
