Worship & Las Posadas Celebration

December 24, 2023 @ 9:20 am

Traveling? Sick? Overslept? Worship with us online on our YouTube channel.

Las Posadas, meaning “The Inns” in Spanish, is a traditional festival from Mexico commemorating Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem and their search for a place where Mary could give birth to Jesus. Each evening Dec. 16–24, a child dressed as an angel leads a procession through town. Children dressed in silver and gold robes carry lit candles and images of Mary and Joseph riding a donkey, and adults, including musicians, follow, as the group visits selected homes asking for lodging. The procession is always refused lodging, although hosts often provide refreshments. At each stop, passages of scripture are read and Christmas carols are sung.

Sun., Dec. 24, we’ll begin morning worship with a celebration of Las Posadas, and with the help of our choir, we’ll have Hispanic flavor in our music throughout the service. Children who would like to take part, please come to the narthex at the start of service to join our procession! We’ll also have a little extra time for singing Christmas carols before service: music begins at 9:20 AM, and procession at 9:30 AM.
