LUMC Building Project

Lansing United Methodist Church (LUMC) was established in 1964 when five small congregations merged and built our current sanctuary, children’s education wing and Fellowship Hall at 32 Brickyard Road, Lansing NY, a gorgeous hilltop location overlooking Cayuga Lake and the Lansing Central Schools.

From its founding, LUMC’s ministries flourished. Celebrating LUMC’s 50th anniversary, the congregation reflected joyfully upon its past works and then asked, “What’s Next?”

Under the leadership of the Church Council, the congregation embarked on a visioning effort called “LUMC Forward” to share their ideas, hopes and dreams for the future of our local church and our ministries. Fully 89% of the active congregation participated and the results were clear. A large majority believes our current building is at capacity and that if we are to grow, or even adequately maintain, our numerous ministries, we must consider an expansion.

A Building Study was soon undertaken and in October of 2014 confirmed the key conclusions of LUMC Forward. A Building Committee was established soon thereafter.

Today, the Building Committee is working with the architectural firm of Holmes, King, Kallquist and Associates to show the congregation what enhancing LUMC’s ministerial programs looks like in terms of a building renovation, as well as the associated costs so that LUMC can determine the best path forward.
