Safe Sanctuaries at Lansing United

Then Jesus said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.”

Luke 9:48a

Lansing United Methodist Church cherishes its call to be a place where all experience God’s love in an environment that protects all who come into our presence to participate in worship and our ministries. An essential part of that call is ensuring that our ministries protect our children, youth, and vulnerable adults from abuse or exploitation. In compliance with the requirements of the United Methodist Church, our congregation has adopted a Safe Sanctuaries Policy to demonstrate our absolute and unwavering commitment to the physical and emotional safety and spiritual growth of all participants in our ministries.

The Lansing United Safe Sanctuaries Policy provides for the protection of all through:

  • Intentional screening processes for employees and volunteers in ministries with children, youth and vulnerable adults;
  • Specific procedures for conducting such ministry programs;
  • Initial and recurring training requirements; and
  • Reporting and response procedures should any concerns with safety arise.

The Lansing United Safe Sanctuaries Policy

This policy complies with the Minimum Standards set forth by the Upper New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and seeks to reflect best practices recommended by both civil and clerical authorities on preventing abuse or exploitation of the most vulnerable in our society. We invite you to review our policy and request that you contact the Lansing United Safe Sanctuaries Team with any questions, concerns, or suggestions by email.
