Worship: Reconciling Congregation 6-Year Anniversary

This year Lansing United will celebrate six years as a Reconciling Congregation. In 2019, when Lansing United voted to become a reconciling congregation, we were making a public statement that “all are welcome here.”  At that time, to do so was in opposition to the parts of The United Methodist Book of Discipline that restricted “self-avowed, practicing homosexual” persons from ordination in the church due to “incompatibility with Christian teachings.” You can read a graphic cartoon history of the United Methodist Church’s struggle over this topic here.  At the postponed 2020 General Conference that finally took place in 2024, the church voted to remove this restrictive language from our Discipline. Hallelujah! The mission to live up to our aspirations- to truly share the love of God with all people continues.
